Visitors must stop at the hotel guard shack to request a beach parking pass. These passes often fill up early, especially on weekends and holidays, so arriving before 8:00 AM is recommended. Once a pass is obtained, visitors can park in the designated beach access parking lot and follow a path to the beach. Restrooms and showers are available near the beach. There are no fees for beach access or parking, but it is free only until the 40 public parking spaces are taken. A visit to Kaunaʻoa Beach can easily fill a half-day or even be an anchor activity for a full day, depending on how long visitors wish to swim, snorkel, or relax.

As with any ocean activity, visitors should be aware of current conditions. While generally calm, strong currents can occur, especially during high surf. Lifeguard services are not typically provided, so swimmers and snorkelers should exercise caution and be mindful of their abilities.
